Hub for Applied Bioinformatics

A space where Bioinformatics happen

Welcome to the Hub for Applied Bioinformatics @KCL, a place where big data are transformed into valuable knowledge that can drive scientific breakthroughs in the fields of life sciences and medicine.

Our mission is to create a collaborative environment where ideas and expertise can be shared freely, leading to greater productivity and innovation in the field of bioinformatics. Whether you’re a student, a research associate or a PI, HAB is the perfect place to learn more about bioinformatics and its application and to getting research done.

At the HAB you’ll be able to apply for bioinformatics support, attend seminars and data club designed around research workstreams, and attend training sessions taught by experts in the fieds.  We understand the value of collaboration and networking, which is why we offer the unique opportunity to book desks in our bioinformatics space. This allows you to work alongside other researchers who are also tackling similar bioinformatics challenges.

Collaborations

Collaborations

The HAB is a dynamic and inclusive environment that brings together staff from different research groups across the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at KCL, enabling them to share their knowledge, expertise, and ideas. By fostering collaboration, we believe that we can accelerate the pace of discovery, ultimately leading to more impactful research outcomes.

Navigate our Research Workstreams page to find PIs involved in each workstreams.

Support

Support

The HAB is dedicated to supporting key research projects through a specialized team of senior bioinformaticians, that will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to bear on each project they work on. Accessing the service group is simple: grant recipients can cost the bioinformaticians directly into their project budgets. To learn more about this service and how it can help support your research, please visit our service page.

Training

Training

We offer a range of workshops and training programs designed to cater to different levels of expertise, from beginner to advanced. The fees for these workshops vary depending on the participant’s career level and affiliation. Please visit our dedicated page for more information on upcoming workshops and their associated fees. In addition, the HAB is closely associated with an MSc programme in Applied Bioinformatics, equipping students to pursue careers in research, industry or academia.

Engagement

Engagement

The Hub’s internal engagement activity is an important part of our mission to foster a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. We organize seminars, data clubs, and journal clubs around research workstreams and different applications, giving students the opportunity to share their knowledge and learn from one another.

Location

Be part of a community

The HAB space is located on the ground floor of the Hodgkin building at the Guy’s campus. Our current space is undergoing refurbishment and is scheduled to be ready in June 2024. The newly refurbished space will offer an open-plan environment with 10 hot desks that can be booked through a user-friendly booking system. The space will also include a seminar/training room, a meeting room, and a kitchen area to relax and network with fellow researchers. We believe that this space will be an excellent place for collaboration and innovation in the field of bioinformatics.
